In 1988, Robin Smith started R.F. Smith Millwork (Millwork Solutions, Ltd. 1998) with equipment purchased from a farmer and a modest loan from a bank.  He grew his business by establishing a customer base and market with certain general contractors and school ISD bond packages.  Millwork Solutions also used “lean manufacturing techniques” and “just-in-time” inventory control.  CNC technology and design software were purchased to automate our custom process and profitability began to grow.  We could compete in the market with more efficient processes and lower overhead.   In 1998, our customer base began to shift to the health care and private section markets.  By 2004, “nested-base manufacturing” was implemented and we purchased a new CNC Flat Table Router.  This proved to streamline our process even more.  2008 was a landmark year with more volume and revenue ever done before, just before the recession hit the industry hard.  With newly implemented job-costing and more efficient office procedures, Millwork Solutions was able to ride out the recession with smaller revenue numbers while keeping all key employees together.  As the industry has turned around, we continue to keep current on software, equipment and procedures in order to provide the best quality product at the best price.
